CHEMISTRY
Chemistry (Certificate Level)
The broad aims of this syllabus are that students should:
- develop curiosity and interest in chemistry;
- acquire an appropriate body of knowledge and understanding in chemistry;
- acquire an ability to think rationally and critically, and to apply the knowledge of chemistry in making judgements and solving problems;
- develop skills in scientific investigations;
- recognize the evolutionary and sometimes transitory nature of chemical knowledge;
- be acquainted with the language of chemistry and be equipped with the skills in communicating ideas in chemistry related contexts;
- develop an appreciation of chemistry and its applications in daily life;
- become aware of the social, economic, environmental and technological implications of chemistry, and show concern for the environment and society; and
- develop open-mindedness, objectivity and proactiveness.
Requirements
- interest in, and enjoyment from, the study of chemistry.
- show concern for the local environment and society.
- logical thinking and analytical power.
- feel comfortable with Mathematics and Integrated Science; and have above average results in the 2 subjects.
