S3 English Radio Drama Workshop and competition
2011-12
All the S3 classes started their English Radio
drama workshop organised by Theatre Noir during early September. After
attending the workshop, students learned how to write, amend and polish their
play. Many students reflected that they learned about the projection of voice
as well as the use of sound effects and background music to enhance the
emotions of radio drama. Compared with their last year's experience in
performing a drama, student commented that radio drama is of another challenge
as they could not convey their feelings or message to the audience via body
gestures or facial expressions but solely their own voice and sound effects.
After the intensive 5 sessions of lessons, each
class had their own competition during their English lessons and one group from
each class was chosen to join the inter-class competition on 14 October.
On 14 October, all S3 classes gathered in the
school hall and witnessed their schoolmates’ performance of their debut radio
drama. All classes demonstrated class spirit and cooperation in conveying the
message in their radio drama. The principal, Dr Wong had kindly accepted as the
adjudicator for the event and also offered constructive feedback as well as
advice to all classes. He appreciated students’ creativity in weaving the theme
of the school “Love in LOVE” into their radio play. He advised the students to
put more emphasis on the use of voice to deliver the characters’ emotions and
personality. Finally, he announced and presented the prizes of the winners of
the competition, with S3B “Love is around you” as the first runner-up and S3E “All
love to all people” as the champion. The whole event ended with everyone’s
applause and admiration.
